About UPEM

Aim of the Program

The aim of the training program in our country and our region in the undergraduate degree programs, in the field of information technology, is to arrange a training program which ends with a competition to reveal talented people who will succeed in international competitions.

Date and Duration of the Program

The program is planned to take a week. First National Programming Training and Contest Program - UPEM2010 is held on 13-19 September 2010. Last two days of the program are devoted to competition at the national level. Groups who are not attended to training program can also participate in competition.

Program at a Glance

Training program can be seen as a composition of three stages. Gaining motivation and informing about similar international competition (ACM ICPC) rules and structure take place in the first stage. In the second stage, tactical training on the use of language characteristics, data structures and algorithms is done through sample problems. The third stage comprises training on the technical infrastructure of competition and trial trainings done by participtaing groups. The real contest and certificate ceremony take place on last day.

Attendee Profiles

24 groups is planned to atend, each of which comprises four members where three of them are students of Computer Engineering or Computer Science Department and one of them are their academic advisor. Departments might conduct tests in order to compose teams.

Rules and Regulations

  • Only groups can attend the contest.
  • Each group consists of three people. Each group is assigned to a single computer.
  • Group members must be undergraduate or graduate students, who are not older than 23 years old(Those who are born in 1987 or later can attend. This being the first year of the program, this rule can be flexed for one or two students, if their department wishes so)
  • Contest duration is 5 hours. At the beginning of the contest, all questions will be given to groups. The aim is to solve as many questions as possible within the time limit. In case of draw, the solving time will be considered.
  • C, C++ and Java programming languages are allowed.
  • Solutions are submitted electronically and the groups are informed of the result immediately.

Contest Environment

Each group will be provided with a same-spec computer. The computers will be irunning Debian GNU/Linux Squeeze version and GNOME desktop environment. The development tools installed on the computers an their versions are listed below:
