I am interested in recognition and classification of generic shapes..

The history of research on computer vision shows a large variety of approaches and techniques to describe shapes. The traditional view is the structural decomposition approach where the idea is to extract the constituting parts of a shape. Hence, a significant amount of effort has been made to define the perceptually meaningful primitives. However, meaning and importance of a primitive can not be determined in isolation. One should analyze a shape in a collection of shapes, or similarly a shape category with its relation to other categories. We explore alternative representations where we avoid giving explicit meaning to the role of primitives in a perceptual organization and highlight the information of similarity and context. We use disconnected skeletons as our computational platform.
