Welcome to CEng563: Computational Linguistics I Home Page
This is a graduate level introductory course on Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing. Due to interdisciplinary nature of CL/NLP and diverse background of students, we cover some background material on Linguistics (formal aspects of morphology, syntax and semantics), and some basic CS material (but not much). If you are well-versed in any programming language, know data structures, then you can follow the discussions. Knowledge of Linguistics and Formal Languages is preferred but not absolutely necessary; you can catch up with some extra reading (see the syllabus).
This course satisfies the Computing track core requirement in the Cognitive Science program at METU. Here's a related course: CEng 584/COGS 514: Cognitive Aspects of NLP.
For those of you who work outside the university but want to take this course, i must say i expect full attendance and participation in class and off-the-class discussions. This is not a course you can take just by attending the exams (there is only one exam anyway). Don't say i didn't warn you.
